This policy explains what information the Valley Church of Christ website collects, why, and what we do with it. If anything here is unclear, please ask — contact details are at the bottom.
Who we are

Text messages
If you choose to sign up at valleycoc.com/text-alerts, we collect your mobile number and, if you give it, your name. We use them only to send you the messages you asked for — assignment alerts, congregation announcements, or both — and to text you a one-time code confirming the number is yours.
Message frequency varies. Assignment alerts are sent only when you have an assignment, which for most people is a few times a year. Announcements are sent as needed, typically no more than a few times a month. Message and data rates may apply, depending on your plan with your mobile carrier.
We do not sell, rent, or share mobile numbers or text message opt-in consent with anyone. This includes other congregations, affiliates, and any third party for their own marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile information collected for text messaging is never shared with third parties for those purposes. The only outside party that handles your number is the messaging provider that delivers the texts on our behalf, which is limited to that purpose.
We keep a record of when you gave consent, the exact wording you agreed to, and when you stopped, if you do. We are required to keep that record, and it is not used for anything else.
Signing up is optional and nothing at Valley Church of Christ depends on it. You can stop at any time by replying STOP to any message, or by removing your number at the bottom of valleycoc.com/text-alerts. When you stop, we keep only the record that you opted out, so we do not message you again by mistake. See also our Text Message Terms.
Information you send us
If you fill in a form on this site or email us, we receive whatever you put in it — typically a name, an email address, and your message. We use it to reply to you and for the purpose you sent it for. We do not add you to any mailing or texting list because you contacted us.
The members area
Parts of this site are password-protected for members of the congregation. If you sign in, WordPress sets a cookie so the site remembers you between pages. That cookie stays on your device until it expires or you clear it, and it is used only to keep you signed in.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics, through the Google Site Kit plugin, to see roughly how many people visit the site and which pages they read. Google receives your IP address and basic information about your browser and device. We use it to understand what is useful, not to identify individuals. You can opt out with Google’s browser add-on or by blocking analytics cookies in your browser.
Server records
Our web host keeps standard server logs — IP addresses, times, and pages requested — for security and troubleshooting. Those are kept for a limited period and are not used to build a profile of you.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing. The only outside parties that handle it are the services that run the site for us — our web host, Google Analytics as described above, and the messaging provider that delivers our text messages — each limited to doing that job.
How long we keep things
Messages you send us are kept as long as they are useful for replying and for our records. Text message consent records are kept for as long as we are required to keep them. Analytics data is kept according to Google’s retention settings.
Your choices
You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, and we will do so unless we are required to keep it. You can stop text messages at any time by replying STOP. You can clear or block cookies in your browser at any time.
Children
This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. Anyone under 18 should have a parent or guardian’s permission before signing up for text messages.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will post the updated version here and change the date at the top.
