A New Place to Lift Our Voices: Grand Opening Singing

There is a particular joy in the first songs sung in a new place of worship. On grand opening morning, the congregation gathered in the new building on College Street and did what the church has always done first and best — lifted its voice together in praise.

Singing That Fills a New Room

Long before a single sermon was preached in this building, its walls were filled with song. Congregational singing is the heartbeat of worship in the Lord’s church — no performance, no spectators, just the whole body of believers joining as one voice. From the old familiar hymns to songs of invitation, this is the sound of a people giving thanks together.

The first song carried a special weight this morning, chosen and led with care by brethren who have sung these same hymns across three different buildings over the years. What ties those places together is not the walls but the worship — the same God, the same praise, the same family raising the same songs.

Why We Sing

Scripture calls the church to sing — “speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:19). Singing teaches us, encourages us, and lifts our hearts toward heaven together. It is one of the clearest pictures of what the church is: not a building, but a people gathered to glorify God with one voice.

We’re grateful for every voice that filled this new room, and for the years of worship still ahead of us here.
