Text Message Terms

Who sends these messages

Valley Church of Christ, 121 East College St., Gunter, TX 75058. We send these messages ourselves. No one else sends messages through this program.

What the program is

Valley Church of Christ offers two separate text message programs. You choose either one, or both, and you can be in one without being in the other:

  • Assignment alerts — a text when you sign up for a security shift or are assigned a date to speak, plus a reminder the day before.
  • Congregation announcements — news for the whole congregation, such as gospel meetings, schedule changes, and work days.

How you join

You join by filling out the form at valleycoc.com/text-alerts: you tick the box for each program you want, enter your mobile number, and we text you a 6-digit code. You are not enrolled until you enter that code, which confirms the number is yours. We never add anyone from a member directory, a sign-in sheet, or a list given to us by someone else.

Joining is entirely optional. Nothing at Valley Church of Christ requires it. You can attend, serve, sign up for security, and use the members app exactly the same whether or not you receive texts, and we will never make consent a condition of anything.

Message frequency

Message frequency varies. Assignment alerts are sent only when you have an assignment — for most people a few times a year. Announcements are sent as needed, typically no more than a few times a month.

Cost

We do not charge for these messages. Message and data rates may apply depending on your plan with your mobile carrier.

How to stop

Reply STOP to any message from us and we will stop immediately. You do not need to explain, and you do not need to reply again. You may also remove your number yourself at the bottom of valleycoc.com/text-alerts. To start again later, reply START to the same number or sign up again.

How to get help

Reply HELP to any message and we will text you back with who we are and how to reach us. You can also contact us by phone at 903.814.5229 or by mail at 121 East College St., Gunter, TX 75058.

Carriers

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery is subject to your carrier’s network and your device.

Your information

Your mobile number is used only to send you the messages you asked for. We keep a record of when you consented and what you consented to, which is required of us. We do not sell or share mobile numbers, or the fact that you opted in, with anyone — including affiliates, other congregations, and third parties for their own marketing. The only outside party that ever sees your number is the messaging provider that delivers the texts on our behalf, which may not use it for anything else. See our Privacy Policy for the full detail.

Changes

If we change these terms we will post the updated version on this page. If a change affects what you agreed to receive, we will ask you again rather than assume.
